Hello again! Back in 2015, I had the very great honor of having an article published in CINEMA SEWER, accompanied by jaw-dropping illustrations by the great Robin Bougie. With Robin’s blessing, I am now sharing that article on The Grindhouse Effect. CREATED BY CINEMA: THE ENIGMA OF AJITA WILSON is an exploration of the undiminished allure of the late Ms. Wilson. So many questions linger about her life…but would the answers, and the light they would shed on this mysterious figure, dimish the ongoing fascination genre fans have for this statuesque beauty?
Wow…has it really been just shy of a year since the last update? Well, I guess I better trot out something fun and rare to make up for it!
I’m excited to present this rarity from my collection. Laura Gemser, Black Emanuelle herself, recorded this single in 1980. I’ve ripped the vinyl and cleaned up the recording the best I can. I hope you enjoy it! The song was later used in the closing credits of the Gemser vehicle VIOLENCE IN A WOMEN’S PRISON. This can be heard below, and on the SOUNDS page.
We’re back with Part Four of our look at the life and career of Shauna Grant. This time around, a review of Roberta Findlay’s 1983 flick, GLITTER. The film stars Shauna Grant, Marlene Willoughby, Kelly Nichols, Tish Ambrose, Michael Knight, Ashley Moore, Rhonda Jo Petty, Tiffany Clark, and Jerry Butler as the inept son of an ad agency mogul who falls in love with a young model.
For the next update we will take a brief pause from Shauna for a review of an exciting new release of a trash film classic: EMANUELLE’S REVENGE. More on that in a little while. Also, we’re working on making available cult siren Laura Gemser’s rarely heard single “Crazy Eyes!” Stay tuned for that!
Suzie Mitchell and her band are riding high, thanks to the unscrupulous methods of their money-grubbing manager Z.W. McCain. Money and fame are all very well, but having their lives micromanaged by a tight-fisted handler is not the sort of price the band is willing to pay for success. Their contract is air-tight, and it seems as if they’re stuck. However, when Suzie spies on McCain frolicking with a crime boss’ daughter, she hatches a plan to dump their manager and take control of her own destiny.READ THE FULL REVIEW HERE
The review features two extended video clips, which have also been added to our SCREENING ROOM and the YouTube channel.
Thanks for all the kind messages I received through social media asking what was happening with the site. With the technical issues ironed out, expect much more sleaze to come!
Just a quick update…The Grindhouse Effect is still open for business! My day job kept me run off of my feet all through the holiday season. Right after I moved houses and was without reliable internet for some time.
But…I’m back! Expect the review of SUZIE SUPERSTAR, the next installment in our exploration of Shauna Grant’s career, to be up by Friday, March 15th.
