October 28th Update

help06Well, hello there! Autumn is upon us! That means icky weather gives me the opportunity to watch more movies! This time, our update is a review of John Hayes’ little twister HELP WANTED FEMALE. A stripper must fight for her life when she takes on the wrong client in HELP WANTED, FEMALE (1968). Review also includes a video clip and gallery. You can check out the review by clicking here.

Money-hungry stripper Luana’s favorite client is the oddball Mr. Gregory . On this session with Luana, Mr. Gregory has something a little different on his mind. While Luana drops her gear, Mr. Gregory drops a little acid. Under the drug’s influence he begins to tell her a sordid tale of his marriage to the wicked Barbara and their adventures with S&M, easy kicks and murder. Luana isn’t convinced, she’s been around the block and is used to the odd peccadilloes of her clients. As she sets out to leave, however, she finds evidence that Mr. Gregory’s story might be all too real and that she’s is in way over her head. READ THE FULL REVIEW HERE.

Enjoy! See you later in the week for new sound clips and wallpaper!

September 12th Update

After a little break we’re back with a new review! This time around it’s John Hayes’ sordid THE HANG UP (1973).

Sgt. Robert Walshhas a chip on his shoulder. He’s a tough-nosed, judgmental, unbending and effective vice cop…and he’s got a hang up. Years of pursuing (and sometimes protecting) people he calls the “scum” of the Earth has made him believe all that is sensual is sinful. During a bust that otherwise would be routine, he feels a spark of sympathy for a young prostitute. Helping her to escape the cops who are closing in, he takes her under his wing and into his life. But the young woman isn’t all that she seems.

July 22nd Update

Welcome back! This update brings an article on tragic starlet Julie Lee. Born to a working class family in Yorkshire, the ambitious Miss Lee dabbled in modeling, acting and even prostitution, desperate to find any means to grab the success she desperately craved. All that would come to an end in a fiery car crash on the M4 in 1983. We take a brief look at the tragically brief life and career of Julie Lee, in the latest article on The Grindhouse Effect. In the next update, coming soon, we’ll review Julie’s only notable film role in the sloppy EMMANUELLE IN SOHO. Until then, enjoy!

July 7th Update

Hey folks! A couple of audiovisual updates today!

First, I’ve resurrected a video from the old site, spruced it up and am bringing it back: EMANUELLE IN BANGKOK: A TRIBUTE (2.0). Basically, the video is scenes from the film set to music from the soundtrack. The original upload got nearly 65,000 views, so I thought it was time to bring it back! You can see it and much more in the Screening Room (or you can watch below).
